Young people from across the Isle of Wight have been congratulated for their efforts and achievements in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).
Carol Taverner, DofE facilitator for the Isle of Wight Council, presented the awards to young people who have achieved either their Gold, Bronze or John Muir Award.
Held at Brading Youth and Community Centre on Friday 30th September, the awards were organised in conjunction with the Isle of Wight Council and the evening celebrated the expeditions and residentials of the delegates.
Nick Spencer, Emelia Miller and Robert Clark achieved their John Muir Awards for their environmental survey project of the Kennet and Avon Canal as part of their Gold residential on a canal boat. Nick and Robert have since achieved their full Gold Award and are awaiting an invitation to a London palace to receive it.
7 Silver participants gave a spoof documentary-styled presentation on their 3-day expedition in the New Forest, highlighting the wildlife and animals encountered on the route, as well as narrating other entertaining antics.
4 Bronze awards were presented to Grace King, Macy Remnant, Finley Youle and Aidan Clement for completing all 4 sections of the award. Macy, Finley and Aidan also completed an expedition in the West Wight exploring the countryside for 2 days, camping out for 1 night, earlier in the year.
