A large fire in a rural location in Rookley has prompted calls to the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service this evening (Friday).
Flames can be seen licking into the air for miles around, leading to concerns from local residents from as far away as Whitwell.
1 appliance from Newport Fire Station is in the area and attempting to locate the exact location of the blaze, which was first spotted at 16:55.
Photographs obtained by Island Echo appear to show that the fire is controlled burning of what appears to be undergrowth, although it remains unclear what is causing it to be such a large fire.
The blaze is located in fields off Bunkers Lane.
