Councillor David Maclean has resigned from his role as the representative for Lake North, just 3 months after being elected by local residents.
Cllr Maclean, of Reform UK, stood down from the Isle of Wight Council this morning (Tuesday).
The news comes just days after there were calls for him to ‘consider his position’.
There has been mounting pressure on the newly elected councillor as he missed the first 3 meetings of the Children’s Services, Education and Skills Committee, as previously reported by Island Echo. There have also been comments on social media about his lack of visibility in Lake North and at local parish meetings.
Island Echo sat down for an exclusive interview with Cllr Maclean, and fellow Reform councillor Caroline Gladwin, just days after their election victory. With decades of experience in international business, David brought a wealth of life experience and a practical, global perspective – with a desire to give back to the community and support Reform’s policies at a local level.
Sadly, it is said David has been struggling to cope with a family bereavement, which came just a short time before May’s by-election.
A fresh by-election is now expected to be held in Lake North to elect a new County Councillor. A date has not yet been set, but Island Echo is told it is likely to be late September.
Runner up in May’s by-election, Councillor Adrian Whittaker, is expected to stand once again for the Conservatives.
I suspect we’ll see a lot of Reformists around the country suddenly realising that there’s work involved, so it’s not for them.
They are not educated enough to understand all that is
required of them, they should stick to attending football

What a waste of money and energy. Perhaps the good people o Lake will vote sensibly next time after seeing how Reform are “performing ” in other Councils

Whilst I agree that he should resign I’m sick and tired of reading comments that don’t take into account the full story. He had a bereavement that he was struggling with. Everything else would have been pushed aside and I image dealing with people at whatever level would have been the last thing on his mind…

if he wasn’t capable, for whatever reason, of doing the important job for which he was elected, he should have admitted it.
being a councillor is a position of responsibility,.. not some two-bit hobby that you do if you feel like it… or if your ‘personal life” leaves room in your diary for…

Well the Labour & Conservative Party have done a fantastic job of alienating British people, diluting our culture and raiding our coffers to support a load of spongers (and worse) coming across the channel. Maybe Mr McLean had issues that any other party rep may have struggled to deal with but vote again with your hearts the people of Lake or we’ll all be the minority before you know it, the way it’s gone so far this year….

Another monumental waste of taxpayers money caused by Reform – by-elections don’t come cheap. These people really are a bunch of wasters. I only hope that those voters who supported this idiot will have the sense not to vote for another Reform candidate. This sort of carry on is happening all over the country. A bunch of self seeking, greedy fools who will never achieve anything worthwhile for those they purport to represent but simply look after number one until they are rumbled then cut and run.
