After the loss of the 2020 event due to COVID and the 2021 event due to the weather, the Pier2Pier Charity Swim Challenge will return to The Bay on Saturday 30th July.
There will be 150 swimmers taking on the challenge of swimming the 1.8km across The Bay to finish on the beach outside the Shanklin & Sandown Rowing Club on Shanklin Esplanade. Shanklin’s Pier once stood in this location but was destroyed by the 1986 storm.
Of the 150 entries, 83 are female, 67 male and 107 will be wearing swimming costumes, alongside 43 in wetsuits. Of the swimmers, 47 are from the Island but a whopping 103 will be travelling across from the mainland.
Organisers Isle of Wight Marlins Master Swim Club are now requesting the assistance of any kayakers or canoeists who can assist as the first line of safety craft to paddle in with the swimmers. Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and Ryde Inshore Rescue will also be on hand, alongside members of the Shanklin Deep Sea Fishermen.
If you are able to assist then email Andrew on [email protected] or call Bob Cooper on 07846438909.
The event begins at 12:15 on Saturday 30th July 2022 and will finish in Shanklin at around 12:40.
