JSA CLAIMANTS FALL AS SUMMER SEASON BEGINS

jobcentresignThe number of Islanders claiming the unemployment benefit Jobseekers Allowance fell by 217 to 1,823 in March.

Figures released this week by the Office for National Statistics have shown a year-on-year fall of some 2,029 claimants compared to March 2014, which saw a whopping 3,852 Islanders claiming JSA.

As the summer season begins, more and more people are expected to get back into work with the number of claimants expected to drop to around 1600 in the coming months.

2.3% of the Island’s working age population is claiming JSA.
