PC Kane Brookes has been dismissed from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary after a misconduct panel found he had lied to colleagues and failed to follow instructions during a criminal investigation.
The Isle of Wight police officer faced allegations relating to 2 separate incidents that took place in 2023, as previously reported by Island Echo. The first involved claims that, in June 2023, he gave false information to several colleagues about an individual who had breached bail conditions by having contact with him.
The second matter concerned his failure to act on instructions between May and October 2023. PC Brookes was told to carry out enquiries linked to a mobile phone that had been seized during an ongoing investigation. He failed to do so and also gave false information about the actions he had taken.
Following a misconduct hearing, the panel concluded that the allegations were proven and amounted to gross misconduct. They ruled that PC Brookes had breached the standards of professional behaviour – specifically Honesty and Integrity, and Duties and Responsibilities.
As a result, PC Brookes has been dismissed from the force with immediate effect. He will also be placed on the Barred List, preventing him from working in policing for at least 5 years.
The misconduct hearing concluded on Friday (19th July).
