The Isle of Wight – which has never returned a Labour MP in its history – now appears likely to have 2 Labour members in the next parliament. This result is according to a YouGov poll in which 14,000 voters were surveyed and analysed using a method that enabled the results to be broken down into individual constituencies. The poll was not commissioned by the Labour Party and does not appear in The Guardian; it was paid for by Tory Party donors and appeared in the true-blue Telegraph newspaper yesterday (Monday). The poll forecasts a narrow victory for Labour over the Conservatives in Isle of Wight West (where Bob Seely intends to stand). The Green Party is expected to come 3rd, with the Lib Dems and Reform sharing 4th place. Labour is also predicted to come 1st in Isle of Wight East, but by an even closer margin, with the Greens again in 3rd place and Reform UK 4th. The poll does not take into account any possible effects of tactical voting in the 2 new constituencies. In the UK as a whole, it is predicted that Labour will sweep into power with 385 seats, with the Tories trailing far behind with just 169, giving Sir Keir Starmer’s party a 120-seat majority.
