The Isle of Wight Conservative Association have raised a total of £1,017.15 for the Prince’s Trust through holding a spectacular Big Coronation Fundraising Lunch.
The event was hosted by Ian and Claire Wellby at their farm near Whitwell, and included a sumptuous lunch followed by patriotic singing backed by the 10 piece Island Band Solent Swing.
The event concluded with a spectacular 21-gun salute in honour of our New King, using original Edwardian saluting cannons from Solent Yachts clubs.
Proceeds from the event were donated the King’s own charity, the Prince’s Trust, who work in partnership with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service on the Island. They offer free 12-week courses for 16-25-year-olds who are unemployed and not in education or training, and have helped over 1,500 young people in the region develop the skills and confidence to enter the world of work in the 20 years the programme has been running.
Ian Wellby said:
“We were absolutely delighted to host nearly 200 people to celebrate the Coronation of our new King, and offer a huge thanks to the South Wight IWCA committee and all those who worked so hard to make the event possible.”
“The Conservatives have always been a party of patriotism, and we were delighted to come together to both celebrate the glorious coronation of our new King, and raise money for his own charity, the Prince’s trust. I was honoured to be able to present the proceeds of the event to charity, and learn about the vital work they do in helping young people find the tools and confidence to get on in life.
“They do great work here on the Island, work that is more relevant than ever as a whole generation of young people struggle to recover from the impact the pandemic has had on their education, social lives and career options.”

Good stuff Ian, well done
Would be a better idea if the money was used to feed the needy
E.g. Soup Kitchen
200 attended,..& they only raised £1000… just £5 each!
That’s not even ‘small change’ for that lot
talk about miserly,.. they make Scrouge look like a philanthropist
Tighter than a gnat’s chuff!
The starting price, just to hire the band is from £100 according to the website. Was the £1000 just an afterthought for their knees up?
But they are self-servatives after all. Should have asked their Russian friends for a few bob.
