ISLANDERS URGED TO STAY SAFE AS NEW ‘COVID WAVE’ HITS THE ISLAND

Covid GraphicWith an increase in cases of COVID-19 across the Island, people are again being urged to do all they can to protect themselves and others from the virus.

Local data shows the number of recorded cases has risen ‘steeply’ from 40 on 22nd May to 240 on 22nd June — the population of the Island is 140,000.

It comes as the Island gears up to welcome thousands of visitors and holidaymakers for the busy summer season.

Residents and visitors alike are being asked to make sure they and their families are fully vaccinated against COVID, and to get the booster if eligible.

Simon Bryant, the council’s director of public health, has said:

“Much as we’d all like to put the pandemic behind us and think that COVID has gone away, unfortunately it is very much still here and is once again spreading quickly through our communities.

“We’re not asking people to put their lives on hold again though and we want everyone to enjoy the summer holidays on our beautiful Island. All we ask is that people remember to take those basic precautions that we know work against COVID, and perhaps most importantly of all, make sure you’re up to date with the vaccinations.

“It’s not too late to get your first, second or initial booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccination — these remain available to all who are eligible.

Article continues below this advertisement

“If you’ve been invited for a booster, please get it.”

Councillor Karl Love, Cabinet member for public health, adds:

“It’s really important to take action to protect yourself, your family, friends and work colleagues. There is a perception that COVID doesn’t cause serious illness anymore but for some people that is not the case.

“The virus is still causing some people to become very ill. Please help to protect our Island community. If you are ill and suspect COVID, please stay home to prevent it spreading.

“We must not infect others, especially vulnerable people and those working in our essential services. Times are tough, but if you are poorly with a fever or respiratory symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, please stay at home and limit contact with others.

“If you need help with treating COVID, there are some useful tips on the NHS website.

“Please don’t be afraid to ask for help. The council’s COVID-19 helpline is still available on (01983) 823600 and islehelp.me is a really good resource for all sorts of help and advice.

“It’s more important than ever that we all take precautions to look after our community and are vaccinated.”

And you’re the biggest idiot in the room.

1st, the people who are not vaccinated are making up the majority of cases, FACT!
2nd, the vaccinated and protecting the un-vaccinated by reducing the chance of them meeting someone with it., FACT!
3rd, Un-vaccinated people are still dying from Covid-19, FACT!
4th, all the covidiots told us that when the infection dies down we would still have all the restrictions in place. But that is not the case, all restrictions are gone, FACT!
5th, everything the covidiots said has now been proven to be false, lets not for get they started by blaming 5G. What gullible idiots!

fred the gullible mug …

another lemming that got injected because someone else said so

what fool takes medication, when they are perfectly fine in case someone else gets ill – what madness.
once all the unintended consequences years down the line show up, I am sure that all the lemmings will not attribute it to the mug jab they had.

Try to understand how vaccines work. They do not, and cannot, stop you catching a virus. They prepare your immune system and make it more effective at fighting it. You can still catch it but you will Ill for a shorter period if time, feel less poorly and, importantly, less infectious for a shorter time.

Had Covid twice since I was vaccinated. If it wasn’t for the fact I tested +ve I would have passed it off as just feeling a bit under the weather.

Vaccines work. It is just you don’t understand how they work.

However Suki they would be dead if not for the jabs. I am speaking personally with 2 family members very seriously ill with Covid. The two new variants are far worse, without Jabs people AREdying.Fact.

I was told to shield but didn’t have not had any jabs at all have carried on as normal the past 2 years no mask no sanatizing have not caught anything and I am asthmatic. It’s the jabbed or poisoned as I see it that are continually ill and wouldn’t be if they had not had them. They are destroying immune systems, weren’t tested and the companies get no comeback if they kill millions with them

The fact that you, a mere 0.0000015% of the UK population and 0.0007% of the Island population didn’t get it despite being unvaccinated is utterly irrelevant.

The stats show that the unvaccinated are significantly more likely to become seriously ill and significantly more likely to die,

They are also significantly more, likely to suffer more, and more serious, long term effects (long covid) that any caused by the vaccine.

Still, you are in luck. I believe Home Bargains have cheap Bacofoil on sale at the moment.

I’m sorry to tell you, Real Islander, that if it wasn’t for my fellow foreigners who were born and bread in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Wight would be virtually Covid free. And yes, it was the music festival. But may I encourage everyone to do what I have been doing since March 2020 and wear a mask in every public place, continue to socially distance, and still use Hands. Face. Space.

Obviously it was the festival. Heard lots of festival goers catching it and now are spreading it. Amazing you must have negative LFT to go on a cruise but 50,000+ don’t need one to go to festivals bloody ridiculous

Why do people think that because restrictions have been lifted the virus has gone. It is still active hence the advice to wear masks. But idiots still visit their doctors surgery without a mask. Even when given a mask before they enter some take them off as soon as they sit down, or give the excuse that they feel claustrophobic when wearing one. Those unvaxxed idiots are stupid enough not to realise that by not wearing a mask they are possibly spreading Covid and it’s variants to responsible people. I am fully vaccinated and continue to wear a mask when near people, as a sign of respect to others.

You are talking out of your backside. Masks do not stop the spread of the virus at all because scientists have proven that the size of the virus particles is one micron, or in other words, one one thousandth of a millimetre. The virus will pass straight through your face nappy even if it did catch the water vapour in your breath. The virus is also now known to be airborne, and not spread by water droplets as originally erroneously reported by the government. Why do you think that surgeries and hospitals no longer have a mask requirement?

You are talking SH*T. Masks do there job. The more people who cover their mouth and nose will slow infections down considerably. FACT!

Wrong!! , please ask The Bay Medical Centre and all other surgeries why it is mandatory to wear a face mask when entering any surgery or Hospital. The truth is that masks certainly help in reducing the spread of Covid. My backside would seem to be more intelligent than your one micron brain.

Where I work a staff member came into work after catching covid at the festival and didn’t tell anyone until the end of the workday. She said that it was now ok to mix if you had symptoms. The result is that eight of us now have it, two of them quite nastily, even though we have all had the vaccines and boosters. Stay safe, respect others or we will end up going backwards.

Flu is still with us. Why? Because we vaccinate every year – and the virus constantly evolves to keep ahead. This is what we’re doing with covid. Creating the same situation. The pharmaceutical companies love us for it.

Cannot understand why some shops have removed their screens.
I think the island will suffer badly when we have dozens of coaches carrying elderley customers
who seem to think they are immortal.

Unfortunately there will always be idiot’s spreading covid , totally selfish, how would they feel if a family / friend died from covid because of someone’s totally selfish attitude, ?????
Respect each other and be responsible……
Get vaccinated , stay at home if you have it …….
There are still vulnerable people out there and they need to enjoy life as well ….

Same coincidence as since mass third world immigration into the UK, coincidently are jails are full to bursting so we can’t give meaningful sentences now. Our housing stocks are so over subscribed that the price is sky high to buy and to rent, if you are lucky enough to find a rental property, and food banks have appeared on the UK’s streets for the first time, not even seen in the two world wars.

Coincidence can and does happen, so don’t blame the Festival without facts.

I feel like an idiot for having the jab! The only one in my house who has and the only one hit hard by the vid… I was in bed really poorly for days! Where as my children and parter (who has lung disease) haven’t had any jabs have had Covid and sailed through with either no symptoms at all or just a sore throat for a day!! It was obvious cases would rise after the festival but I still can’t get over they shut the world for 2 years for it… we all need to just get on with it now!

I went to the festival and caught covid for the very first time. The friends I went with also caught it, for the first time. Glasto is reporting infections too. Interestingly, out of 4 of us, 1 was not vaccinated. He is 15 years younger than me and is still ill and in a bad way. The rest of us have had our vax and we are all now ok and tested negative today. Anyone saying the vax are not doing their jobs or it is only the vaccinated have got infected is total rubbish. Having read the comments, the anti brigade have crawled out from under their rocks after having to hide away with embarrassment.

We all knew the festival would be a ‘super spreader’ event. Just shows you, many 1000’s in close proximity to each other and COVID has had a field day.
Now there is a significant spike in infections and the numbers are high, it made national news this morning.

Island residents are now having to deal with the spike in infections due to the ‘super spreader’ event back in June…….
I hope visitors to the island in July & August in the long summer holiday are sensible and ‘mask up’ when in confined areas like, supermarkets, shops etc or we’ll see another huge rise in infections.
The ferries should have notices politely requesting visitors to respect the island and it’s residents by wearing a mask when in confined indoor places. This will protect their staff who work on the ferries too.
