AUDIO: The Isle of Wight has this week welcomed a new Chief Fire Officer as the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s partnership with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority begins.
With the partnership having come into force on Wednesday (1st April), Dave Curry now oversees both Hampshire’s and the Isle of Wight’s fire services, although local managers remain on the Island.
Steve Apter, who has served as the Chief Fire Officer for the Isle of Wight since 2011, has now taken up the role as Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Hampshire.
Dave was appointed as Chief Officer at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service in late 2014 and took up the role in January 2015. Prior to this Dave was Deputy Chief Officer, having joined Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2004.
Dave has been Director of Prevention, Protection and Road Safety on the Chief Fire Officer’s Association for a three year term to September 2014. He is also currently South East Regional Chair of the Association of Principal Fire Officers.

A Londoner by birth, Dave joined Surrey Fire Brigade in 1986 moving up the ranks to be Assistant Chief Fire Officer in the county in 2001. Dave led on the development of an Integrated Risk Management Plan for Surrey and was then in charge of Service delivery.
