Barratt Developments, made up of Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, has revealed a robust financial position despite the COVID-19 crisis in its end of year results – and says priorities remain on providing quality homes, supporting jobs and keeping staff and customers safe going forward.
The company, that is bringing new homes to the Island, recorded a pre-tax profit of £491.8 million in the year to June 2020. This is a significant difference to its 909.8 million recorded in 2019 but explained by the obvious challenges faced during the current pandemic.
Commenting on the results, Jon Green, Managing Director of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Southampton division said:
“While Covid-19 has had a significant impact on our results, our priority has been to keep our people safe, mitigate the effect of the pandemic on our business and be able to emerge from the crisis in a resilient position.
“And although uncertainties remain, all of our sites are now operational, and we are seeing a big demand as buyers are yet again able to search for their brand-new home.”
Barratt and David Wilson Homes are building new homes on the Isle of Wight, including at St George’s Gate in Shide.
Jon Green continued:
“We are now renewing our focus on leading the industry in quality and service and on supporting jobs and economic growth by building the homes the country needs.”
This is welcome news to homebuyers across the country that have had their moving plans put on hold because of the pandemic.

Barratt and quality are two words that have never combined .
And safety it’s a joke
Here we go again. Free advertising for dreadful quality houses
BS. Their priorities are solely profit for shareholders. Nothing else.
I never understood how you can use quality and rabbit hutch in one sentence
Ha ha love that so true
Noticed is doesn’t say “Good Quality” or “High Quality” only quality, it could mean bad quality.
I also have to agree with all the above comments, i actually went to look at the so called show homes when they first started building them.
I was NOT impressed at all, and on hearing of several people complain about them and they only offer their own 5 year warranty on them…. i would not buy one ever.
To be honest, even if they gave me one free, i still would not move in.
If buying one of these please put level upstairs think potential buyer would be SHOCKED
Judging by the level of ignorance and rudeness shown by their builders (or should I say contractors) when parking their numerous vans and cars wherever they can, on pavements, across drives blocking residents cars (I’ll only be a minute mate, is a well heard phrase locally) It would be good if Barrats etc accepted some responsibilty for the feelings of local residents. Not only do they suffer the rabbit hutches blighting their previously peaceful existence but the have to put up with the builders ignorance for 2 years or more while they are being fabricated.
