Specialist fire investigation officers from the mainland have been brought in to help investigate the cause of a fire at a house in Ryde this morning (Thursday).
Hampshire Constabulary are working alongside their colleagues from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to ascertain the full circumstances of the blaze, which led to a woman, 2 children and a dog being rescued at just before 07:00.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services rushed to Swanmore Road when smoke was seen billowing into the morning sky. Around 25 firefighters from Ryde, Newport and Sandown were involved in tackling the fire, which appears to have begun at the rear of the property before spreading to the roof space.
A total of 8 BA, 2 hose reels, 1 main jet and various small tools were used in the battle to save the family home.
Police have cordoned off the entrance to the semi-detached house whilst the scene is probed, which includes for any criminal involvement.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Fire Investigation team have arrived on the Island and are conducting an examination of the charred building in a bid to help piece together the events of this morning.
Island Echo understands the woman sustained burns in this morning’s incident and is receiving specialist care.

Morons above to judgemental to quick to accuse when it clearly said fire rose to the loft. Not start in the loft so why accuse them of growing in the loft knobs
One of the most likely reasons for arson one assumes would be over drug dealing issues. IF, it is arson.
Few normal people would do such a vile crime, but where drugs and the huge sums involved in dealing are involved, then never rule out such.
Swanmore as people have said have had teacher growing, so this is not impossible as others on here seem afraid to hear the Island has a major drug problem.
