UPDATED: A hotel room in the centre of Newport has been sealed off tonight (Sunday) following the death of a man.
3 fire appliances from Newport and Cowes, Police and ambulance crews all responded to the Travelodge hotel on Lugley Street at just before 19:00.
It’s at the hotel that Island Echo understands the man has used a type of gas to take his own life.
Sadly, medical teams have been unable to save his life despite their best efforts.
Police remain at Travelodge tonight, however the hotel is open as normal.
UPDATE MONDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the body of a 60-year-old man was discovered at just before 18:50 yesterday evening.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner in due course.
