Inquests have been opened and adjourned today (Tuesday) into the deaths of 44-year-old Darren Flux-Edmonds and his 6-year-old daughter Keziah following a tragic series of events at their family home in East Cowes almost 2 weeks ago.
Today’s inquest openings in Newport heard how 6-year-old Keziah – who was being looked after by her father whilst her mother was at work – was found in a wet state on a bed alongside the bodies of 2 dogs, which were also wet.
Police performed CPR ahead of the arrival of paramedics, who then conveyed Keziah to St Mary’s Hospital. Despite continued efforts the young girl was pronounced dead at 12:10.
Whilst the cause of death is still unassertained pending further investigations, Police believe the likely cause of death to be drowning. The family bath was found to be full of cold water.
Her Majesty’s Coroner for the Isle of Wight, Caroline Sumeray, has heard how at 10:09 on Wednesday 1st June, Mrs Nichola Flux-Edmonds, Keziah’s mother, alerted Police after receiving a text which she believed indicated that Mr Flux-Edmonds was going to harm their daughter.
Mrs Flux-Edmonds arrived at home on Cromwell Avenue around the same time as Police at 10:38 to discover the bodies of Darren, Keziah and the 2 dogs.
As previously reported, a post-mortem has confirmed that Darren Flux-Edmonds of Gunville Road, Newport died as a result of ligature suspension. Mr Flux-Edmonds was found hanged on a rope from the loft hatch.
Coroner Caroline Sumeray has offered her deepest condolences to the family in this tragic matter.
The inquests have been adjourned until 13th December 2016.
