The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team evacuated an injured woman from Alum Bay with the assistance of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service yesterday evening (Wednesday).
Fire crews from Newport and Freshwater were called to the far Western point of the Island at around 18:40 after a woman – thought to be American – injured herself whilst out walking but refused to utilise the chairlift to reach the top of the cliffs.
Firefighters worked alongside Coastguard officers to bring the female casualty to safety from the remote beach and into the care of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Yarmouth RNLI were tasked to launch to the incident, however are thought to have been stood down a short while later.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to Yarmouth Harbour yesterday evening to rendezvous with a male casualty who had become injured whilst out on the Solent. He was brought into Yarmouth by a pleasure craft.
