Steve Norris MBE, the former coxswain of Freshwater Independent Lifeboat who put in over 30 years of dedication to saving lives at sea, has died.
Steve, who retired from duty in 2007 at the age of 62, was a member of the original team who put Freshwater’s lifeboat service together. He served as Coxwain for some 31 years.
For his efforts, Steve received an MBE from Her Majesty The Queen.
Current Coxwain Tony Moore has this week said:
“It was a shock to hear the sad news of Steves’ death last week, our thoughts are with Sue, Rob, Katie, Chris and Carla and all his family.
“Steve was the founder member of our unit and put 30 plus years of dedicated selfless time into the unit building it up to what it is now, not only on the water doing what he did with superb skills and knowledge but also fundraising and with early members physically building the station and associated groundwork”.
