An open day event celebrating the bicentenary of the RNLI was held at the Inshore Lifeboat Centre in East Cowes on Sunday, with hundreds of people turning out to explore what goes on down by the banks of the River Medina. Guided tours of the facility were provided throughout the day, with plenty of other activities for visitors to explore. Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams were on hand to provide vital safety advice and a lifeboat demonstration took place in the Marina. The blessing and naming of a new D-Class lifeboat took place at lunchtime and music was aplenty from the likes of the Slipshod Singers and Medina Marching Band. A new mural on the walls of GKN Aerospace – located at the other end of Clarence Road – was also unveiled at the weekend.

Righting the RIB is good stuff, but I’d want to wait to see if they could re-start the engine!
