Hovertravel has cancelled its services for the rest of today (Friday) due to yet another technical problem with Island Flyer – the only craft currently available in the fleet.
The cross-Solent operator says a technical issue – which has not been disclosed – has forced the suspension of its Ryde to Southsea service, with an update not expected until 07:15 tomorrow morning.
Island Flyer has broken down on the pad at Southsea, which tends to be more problematic for engineers.
It comes just over 24 hours after another suspension of service – also relating to a technical issue on board Island Flyer.
Island Echo understands that Hovertravel has just 1 craft available for use as Solent Flyer has been taken to Griffon Hoverwork for maintenance work.
Tickers are being accepted on Wightlink’s Fastcat service between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour.
Last month it was exclusively reported by Island Echo that Hovertravel is looking to make 17 members of staff redundant following the loss of 86,000 passengers since the pandemic, recent Budget changes by the Labour government and at a time when the company has filed a £780,000 loss.

All the Island ferry companies should be made to answer and fined for their failings over the last decade, they have assisted in the decline of island and their price fixing has assisted in the low tourist rates.
