Hollywood star and Isle of Wight resident Benedict Cumberbatch dropped in on the 124th Brighstone and District Horticultural Society Summer Show at the weekend, much to the surprise of locals.
The show, which was held on Saturday (16th July), normally attracts a strong crowd but never such high-profile celebrities.
Cumberbatch, who lives in nearby Brook, can often be found in the local area and often surfs at Compton Beach.
Chairman Donald Appleby posed for a photo with The Imitation Game and Sherlock Holmes star, which was then shared on the Society’s Facebook Page with the simple caption “it was great to see some new faces supporting our show yesterday”.
It’s unknown if Benedict grew his own marrows or entered any classes.
This is the actor who lectures all of us on global warming, carbon emissions/footprints and instructs us all that we need to do more.. Oh that will be the same fella that took 9 long haul flights after lockdown and is an ambassador for MG cars! Priceless!!

Fame doesn’t impress me in the slightest, however, I’ve met Benedict Cumberbatch at Compton once and he was a real nice bloke. Considering all the constant hassle and attention he must get from some members of the public, he was very cheerful, very polite and a real gentleman. Good on him.
