Aspire Ryde is looking to convert the first and second floors of the former Just Home store in Ryde High Street into a 5-bed house of multi occupation (HMO).
A planning application has been submitted for 35-36 High Street in a bid to convert floors previously used as additional retail floorspace and offices into 5 bedrooms and communal living space.
If the scheme is given the green light by the Council’s planning department, the HMO will be part of a rented housing scheme enabling members of the community to be appropriately housed prior to securing long term accommodation. Occupation would be provided on Assured Shorthold tenancies to people who are likely to be living in substandard or insecure accommodation elsewhere who are likely to be in danger of homelessness, but may figure low on the statutory housing register system.
Planning permission was previously granted in July 2020 to convert the 2 floors into 4 flats.
The new proposal utilises the existing property without any need for demolition or extensions with no external changes proposed. Under the plans, access will be via an alleyway to the rear of the High Street shops accessed from Star Street. The first floor will be used as a communal kitchen/dining room and a single bedroom with en-suite bathroom. The second floor will accommodate the other 4 bedrooms all served by en-suite bathrooms.
Aspire Ryde currently occupies the High Street building for its community hub. The ground floor and half of the upper floors would continue to be part of the community hub.

Now this is one plan that needs approval to allow those with issues to stabilise and join the community in their own right. I should imagine that anyone abusing the accommodation situation will be ousted by the Landlords before the situation worsened. If we don’t give people a chance to prove themselves than we are nothing more than a certain person living in Moscow.
Agree, all people have the right to live somewhere, and I think that this is the perfect location.

That is what happens when the NIMBY do everything in their power to prevent growth and prosperity on the island. They want to keep in like it was in the 70’s, including the unemployment figures and constant strikes.
