A community book commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day was recently launched as a special tea party in Yarmouth. There were no spare seats as Yarmouth Mayor Debbie McCleary welcomed High Sheriff Graham Biss and his wife Sue, to the event, which was also attended by contributors, their families and supporters of the project. The book, with contributions from 90 people, is a collection of the memories and photographs shared by people who live in Yarmouth, or who have a strong connection with the area when events of June 1944 were very close to the people of West Wight. The High Sheriff spent the afternoon meeting contributors and hearing some of their stories. Graham was presented with a copy of the book and his wife Sue received a bouquet of old roses, known to be grown in 1944. The book is available from Holdings of Yarmouth and was supported by Yarmouth Town Trust, Delphie Lakeman Trust, Isle of Wight National Landscapes and the Herapath Shenton Trust.
