Sandown Community Partnership is this week celebrating a £6,800 Heritage Lottery Fund grant.
The grant is set to create a brand new heritage trail in and around Sandown which will see a signposted tour around Sandown’s life story all the way from its humble beginnings, through its military importance to its position as one of the leading holiday venues in England.
The Sandown Community Partnership is working alongside local business owners, residents and uthorities as well as Ryde School with Upper Chine.
Commenting on the award, Andrew Vaughan, Project Co-ordinator on behalf of the Sandown Community Partnership, said:
“This award is fantastic news for Sandown and it is wonderful that so many people, especially youngsters, are going to be helping with the project. Sandown is a beautiful place and has such happy memories for so many people who took holidays here as children but has sadly suffered like many resorts in recent times. I’m certain that the boost this award will give the town can put some of the old sparkle back. I can’t wait to get started.”
Stuart McLeod, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund South East England, said:
“This project provides a wonderful opportunity for local people in Sandown to delve into their local heritage and we are delighted to be supporting the creation of the heritage trail.”
