HERE WE GO AGAIN! FACE MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED IN SHOPS AND ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Islanders will once again have to wear face masks in shops and on public transport as Boris Johnson tightens the ‘irreversible’ COVID restrictions in the run up to Christmas.

The final details will be confirmed in the next day or so, but the Prime Minister has outlined that shoppers will be required to wear a mask in shops in the run up to Christmas, as will those using public transport.

However, there is some good news for the hospitality industry as pubs, restaurants and cafes will be exempt from the restriction. This means that Christmas parties and meals can go ahead as normal.

Article continues below this advertisement

The ‘temporary and precautionary’ measures are set to be reviewed in 3 weeks’ time.

For those going abroad this December a Day 2 PCR test will once again be required when returning to the country. Furthermore, those returning home must isolate until a negative result is confirmed.

Today’s news comes as 2 cases of the new Omicron variant have been confirmed in the UK – but the Government aren’t quite sure on the impact it has overall and how effective the existing vaccine is against it. But it is all ifs and maybes at this stage.

omnicron is an anagram of moronic – which aptly describes the knee jerk, tin foil hat wearing response to this apparent variant, which the south african doctors have indicated is mild from what they have seen so far, with no hospitialisations.

You guys are the sheeple bleating the same tired nonsense that prolongs this situation. Get a vaccine, wear a mask. Two super simple considerate actions that could save someone you know’s life. Maybe even your own.

New Yorkers have been wearing masks since day 1 and they have been living practically a normal life.
Their Christmas was not taken away from them last year.

A Doctor friend of mine on the Island informed me, since the wearing of Masks it’s amazing how many of his patients did not catch colds.

wearing a mask does not protect you, it stops you from transmitting infection which is why staff in operating theatres and dentists wear them at all times, you have every right to refuse to wear one but by the same token you have a responsibility to safeguard others so if you choose not to wear a mask then you should not be allowed to use public transport or enter shops and there should be no exceptions whatsoever

Glad your doctor friend isn’t my physician. A little lesson in basic science for those now reluctant to wear one, as still taught in medical school when learning how to gown up for theatre.

Face coverings (non fabric, close fitting, worn and handled correctly, ie not under the chin or in a dirty pocket) limit the volume and travel distance of expiratory droplets dispersed and expelled when talking, breathing, and coughing. A face covering without vents or perforations will also filter out microbes containing the virus from inhaled and exhaled air, reducing the chances of infection and affecting what we know as viral load .Studies have shown best protection is acquired when everyone wears a mask combined with a minimum 2m social distancing.

be interesting to see how many tesco staff comply and how many of the public wear a mask properly instead of having their noses hanging out

Tesco staff are told to comply by management. Even certain members of staff who GENUINELY suffer conditions like Asthma, put on their masks because they know how important a mask is in a shop environment with many people in that space. A few will not, but do GENUINELY have medical reasons. Intriguing why you mention specifically Tesco? The chances of transmitting COVID or any virus, even the common cold, are dramatically reduced IF EVERYONE WEARS A MASK. FACT.

A pub is not a place that you HAVE to visit to survive. A pub is NOT a necessity, it’s a social environment. Where as a shop/supermarket is rather more of a necessity don’t you think? But I do agree, seems bizarre pubs and clubs, who are both big spreaders of all VIRUSES not just COVID have been let off!

We should not have stopped wearing masks in shops, the staff working in them are at risk against these anti-vac and anti-mask individuals. Both are effective because of mask wearing alone, this is the first year in 8 years I and my son have not suffered from severe chest infections. As far as anti-vac concerned the only person in our family who ignored the vaccination caught the virus and still suffering after effects.

People who do not get fully vaccinated should be refused any treatment on the NHS if they are unlucky enough to need hospital intervention. Put a stop to all these stupid anti-vaxers spouting rubbish. People with genuine medical complications who cannot have the jabs, excluded from my comment of course.

mask wearing should be compulsorily with or without covid, with a £50 on the spot fine for non-compliance, keep you cold, flu and other bug you’ve got to yourself, when in any enclosed space. There was no exemption for gasmasks, so why should there be for little cloth or paper ones?

‘Compulsory’ you mean. Think you should be living in a communist regime, not here!

You are seriously comparing chemical warfare to a minor flu virus…. The ones wearing them should be fined for utter stupidity. How people still take this seriously is beyond comprehension.

It’s not flu you stupid idiot, but then that’s the kind of stupid response we can expect from people like you isn’t it. I wish you could say that face to face to someone who has lost someone because of it. Totally ignorant attitude, hope you get it, and severely too, then you might be crawling for help.

Yeah the other agenda is to make it all up all around the world to kill off all the thickos who don’t believe in anything that may affect your egos. I’m ok being a sheep thank you, warm and cosy, unlike the parasites that live off the sheep. Isn’t it time you crawled back into you dank world of conspiracy theories.

I was in Drury Lane, London, this afternoon and happened to notice a large group of people from our wise and expert government all having lunch in The Opera Tavern. No masks, social distancing or worries for that crowd… Still, if you want to follow their orders, and not their example, good for you. That makes you the fine citizen they want you to be.

I work in a supermarket and Im absolutely terrified If you are unable to wear a mask for a shopping trip then perhaps you should get an online shop . We risked our lives when there was no vaccine available and everyone else was safely locked up indoors and most getting paid .Now when we are sick we get SSP a mere £96 per week wot a joke
