Christmas lights fundraiser Terry Ramplin and his wife Sue have been able to see the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance up close and personal after being invited to the charity’s base at Thruxton following their fantastic fundraising efforts last Christmas.
As previously reported, a staggering £3870 was raised by the Ramplin’s Christmas lights display on Long Lane, Newport throughout December, a long way from the £240 raised back in 2000 for other charities. This amount was rounded up to £4000 by Newport Parish Council, who are also supporting this year’s display with a donation towards running costs.
The future of the last remaining large lights display on the Island was in doubt, however Terry has told Island Echo that the display will go ahead thanks to local support. Local businesses are still being urged to help where possible with the huge running costs – anyone who can help is asked to contact Terry on 01983 526089.
The handing over of the cheque took place in March, but Terry and Sue felt it fitting to take the photograph once again with the life-saving helicopter present alongside their friends Geoff and Liz Boulter.
The £4000 donation is a great help towards the day-to-day running of the helicopter, which is soon to be upgraded to allow nighttime flying.
