UPDATED: The National Police Air Service helicopter was in the skies above the Isle of Wight during the early hours of this morning (Friday) after a driver fled the scene of a crash in Newport.
The incident, which involved a Seat Ibiza, occurred on Fairlee Road near to Medina College at sometime before 01:40.
Local police descended on the area but the currently unnamed driver took off towards Medina Arboretum, prompting officers on the ground to call in air support from Bournemouth.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on whether or not the driver has been apprehended.
UPDATE @ 09:15 – It has been confirmed that no arrests have been made.
