A total of 6 members of the Ryde and Sandown Beach Lifeguards embarked on their annual cross Solent swim from Gosport to Ryde yesterday (Monday). The Beach Lifeguards set off from Gosport at 15:45, with the weather being kind, with low winds and blue skies. The first swimmers finished on the beach in front of the Beach Lifeguard Station on Ryde Beach at just gone 17:30. The Lifeguards then received their medals on Ryde Beach, along with the kayakers and lifeguard jet ski operators. The Lifeguards were swimming to raise money for the lifeguard service, that operates in both Ryde and Sandown, which will help to fund new lifesaving equipment and drowning prevention programs through Just Giving (www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/katsolentswim). Ryde Beach Lifeguards is not part of the RNLI. Todd Miller, Beach Manager, has said:
“We would like to thank all the kayakers, lifeguards and Griffin Marine Services that provided the safety cover for the swim, and I am terribly proud of Fin, Piran, Jack, Harry, Charlie and Kat for completing the swim”

Great achievement well done all of you
Well done everyone of you for giving you time that can save lives,
Shows the impact the extortionate Ferry Fares are having on locals,
they are now swimming to Pompey.
A much more reliable service than
Red Funnel or Wightlink
