Gritters will be treating the Island’s road network from 19:00 tonight (Christmas Eve) due to the anticipated freezing conditions.
IW Met Service has issued an advisory for black ice, especially for untreated rural roads.
Forecasters say that temperatures will fall to freezing in several areas of the Isle of Wight and due to the continuing breeze this will lead to an ‘invisible’ frost in many places.
Field run-off from the recent rainfall is likely to freeze on untreated roads, especially in rural areas, leading to black ice.
Motorists should take extra care on the roads into Christmas Day.
