Isle of Wight College student Duncan Chandler has had his head shaved to help in his grandmother’s fight against cancer.
Duncan’s grandmother Janet Bedford is currently undergoing chemotherapy for stage 4 liver and pancreatic cancer.
18-year-old Duncan is raising money to buy Janet some head dressings and to support the Chemotherapy Ward at St Mary’s Hospital.
Duncan’s mother Tracie has set up a gofundme page for her mother, which has raised £210 of its £1,000 target to date.
Tracie wrote:
“I’m reaching out for help on behalf of my amazing mum, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for stage 4 liver and pancreatic cancer. As you can imagine, this has been a difficult time for her and our family, but we’re determined to help her feel as comfortable and loved as possible during this battle.
“One of the toughest challenges she’s facing is losing her hair, which has been hard on her self-esteem. To help her feel more like herself, we would love to get her a beautiful wig and some comfortable head coverings that she can wear with confidence and to raise money for the cancer ward at the hospital.
“To support this, my 18-year-old son Duncan has decided to shave his head and collect sponsorships to raise funds for his Nan’s wig and head coverings. He’s committed to this act of love and solidarity, and we’re hoping to raise enough money to make this happen.
“We know times are tough for many, but any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to us.”
