The good, the bad and the ugly of the Isle of Wight’s food scene have been revealed in the latest food hygiene inspections.
Inspections carried out by Isle of Wight Council environmental health officers have rated restaurants, schools and food production companies in line with the Food Standards Agency.
Eateries are ranked across 3 categories — hygenic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities as well as food safety management.
Scores are then dished out on a scale from 0 (‘Urgent Improvement Necessary’) to 5 (‘Very Good’).

Why do the relevant authorities feel the need to test all establishments ?
For example, 5 stars for the off license in Ryde who only sell prepacked sandwiches, regarding food. Not exactly home made.
Maybe they are making moonshine out the back ?
What say you IW Council ?
Agree, why all the thumbs down, valid comment, why are islanders so thick ?
What say you bob seeley ?
Great to see so many businesses with 5 stars.
Well done to all, keep up the good work.
I can only speak for myself, but a little fed up of these doom and gloom reports, nobody goes abroad and checks such reports before eating or drinking at a local restaurant.
This style of scare mongering only makes businesses lose money and we already have dying high streets, lets just keep putting more nails in the coffin
Wouldn’t you sooner know an establishments hygiene standards before you eat there then ? If nothing was regulated goodness knows what sort of practices would go on .. it’s not scare mongering it is a way of making businesses conform to standards and making them safe.
If a cafe/restaurant has poor hygiene standards they should be closed until they sort out the problems.
I think you would soon complain if you got food poisoning !
Perhaps you would prefer standards that match Chinese Wet Markets???…more bad hygiene trading will be along soon…
Well if the IWC cannot ruin a business with rip off business rates, then try the stealth, hygiene rating … the high streets are dying .. and the IWC look the other way .
It’s an island thing, just moan about everything and nothing.
I find that people who are born here are an exeption to this rule.
Only the “oveners” who find fault, don’t know why,
Maybe they think that they are more intelligent then the rest of us ?
IMO THE IW IS THE LARGEST OLD PEOPLES HOME IN THE WORLD.
Second only to Florida.
Cheap food at Langham Court in Shanklin. I’m up for that!
Candies in Shanklin has just opened… Only it never seems to be open.
Why are these places with 2 stars and below allowed to stay open – close them down now.
Langham court in Shanklin – no stars – terrible.
Owner should know better as have owned if for years.
Gods providence in Newport – god not doing his work there whatsoever – shut it down.
The Fawley in Shanklin – terrible with just 2 stars – new owners only been in for a few months and no training whatsoever on food handling – disgusting close them down.
