Members of Christians Working Together in The Bay took it in turns to carry a cross through Shanklin this morning (Good Friday) in memory of the death of Jesus.
Processing to the dead beat of a drum, they called at several churches including St Blasius, St Saviour’s, United Reformed, Methodist, Sacred Heart and St Paul’s.
At each stop, part of the crucifixion story was read aloud.
Good Friday marks a tough day. Judas betrayed Jesus, Peter denied ever knowing him, and the other disciples ran away. They were all in despair.
At 06:15 on Sunday morning, the followers of Jesus will be at the bottom of Hope Road in Shanklin. As the sun rises out of the sea, they will celebrate the resurrection of their Lord, Jesus Christ.

Fantastic that grown adults still believe in this conspiracy that is over 2 thousand years in the making.
It’s not a conspiracy. There’s plenty of evidence that Jesus lived, died and rose again. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life” He died so our sins could be forgiven.
Oh the bible, the biggest con trick ever invented that fools like you believe in.
The bible is an old book, it is not evidence. It’s an old story book full of errors. Why did your god create measles, a disease is a leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide? Luckily we have vaccinations in the UK that prevents this here.
That’s what I call evidence.
It’s also fantastic that instead of being respectful of people’s beliefs, you want to spread hate. Not to worry, I’ll pray for you
Where is the hate spreading? Most people in this country do not believe in god. Just because they don’t follow your beliefs and choose to challenge them doesn’t mean they are spreading hate. Seems like you are probably the hateful one.
People banging on my door trying to preach at me is not respectful of my beliefs. Being told you’re evil and will burn for ever is not being respectful of my beliefs. It’s funny how the most disrespectful people are the ones that demand respect the most.
Hate’s a bit harsh, I was brought up a Catholic, and I realised that it’s all a myth, also an ideal opportunity for many to abuse Children without believing that it is a Sin.
Absolute idiots. They aren’t even brainwashed, just plain stupid. Even better they are now a minority, Fact.
What a joke ,its been proved that the bible is wrong,so called god made adam & eve ,they had 2 sons ,1 of them went & found a wife where did she come from ??? !!!!!
Love Island?
That’s easy, they married their mum! Incest right from the off.
What I want to know is why every single painting of Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden shows their bellybuttons. Basically the whole things is a farce…
Hilarious! Grown adults. There’s more truth watching Disney…
Hence the saying….”We all have our crosses to bear”.
There was another group doing this down York Avenue in East Cowes as well. Pitiful people who believe that the mythical “Jesus” actually existed. Religion is just a cult for sad, empty people who need to believe that there is going to be something better after death. There won’t be.
He’s cheating, got a little wheel at the end.
To all you people who are calling people idiots for believing, you’re well within your rights to do so. Answer this though, if one of your loved ones are seriously ill in hospital, and you’re hoping and praying that they’ll be okay, who are you praying to?
Just wondering if all those posting negative things about Christianity here would care to do the same about other religions too?
A man is carrying a cross around Sandown as a symbol of his faith at this time of the year. Would those making fun and derogatory comments make similar comments about the women we see more of now on the Island wearing Hijabs and Niqabs etc as part of their faith? Or is it just Christianity you have a problem with specifically?
Come on, be brave. If you honestly believe what you say about religion, say it about the other religions too not just Christianity.
I’m not religious myself, firmly agnostic, but I don’t like the hypocrisy of making fun of one religion because you’re scared of doing it to the other.
