A young woman has been airlifted to hospital by Coastguard Rescue helicopter this morning (Friday) after collapsing on Rew Down near Wroxall.
Emergency teams including Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 104 from Lee-on-Solent were tasked to the outskirts of Ventnor at around 02:00 following reports of a collapsed female in the rural, hard-to-reach location of Rew Down/Stenbury Down.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were initially called to the scene at around 23:00 after the 23-year-old woman suffered a medical episode whilst out with friends and family.
With its search lights on, the Coastguard helicopter circled the skies between Wroxall and Ventnor before landing in fields at 02:30, conveying the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport where Newport Coastguard Initial Response Team were standing by.
The patient touched down on the St Mary’s helipad at just gone 03:00. Her condition is said to not be life-threatening.
