Red Funnel customers using the vehicle ferry service to Southampton face delays of an hour this morning (Friday).
The cross-Solent operator announced the delay to its service online, with those waiting to board the ferry for their crossings queued through East Cowes, causing some traffic delays in the town.
Traffic is said to be slow on the main road into East Cowes including the recently reopened York Avenue – which had been closed for resurfacing works.
Sailings are expected to be delayed until at least 14:00, according to the operator.

I would suspect that all the people caught and held up by the ongoing ferries debacle of the past months will still say there’s still no need for a fixed link.
There is no need for a fixed link.
That maybe Billy, but the ferry companies are making a very good case for one.
Not if you’ve not been messed about by the ferry companies, my whole weekend away, first in four years, had to be cancelled because of them. A fixed link has to be the way ahead. For those who say it will increase crime etc look around you, its already here, that now is not an argument against it.
We love our Isle as it is and yes no need for a fixed link. Why change a perfect little Isle. If people don’t like it don’t come over
Wtf. Just got message saying my 9pm ferry back to IW delayed for 3 hours but check in as normal. I’m not bloody sitting in a car park for 3 hours!! Screw that!!
My mate had his brought forward 6 hours to 5.30am, mine was pushed back 6 hours to midnight, we both made the booking on wednesday, aboard the victoria of wight, why were they still taking bookings for it when they knew it would be out of service??
Last Friday went to Southampton.
Very little covid control
On return queued 45 minutes to get in terminal.
5 hour wait even when we had a booking.
Then filled the ferry to capacity with cars & passengers, social distancing impossible jammed in everwhere.
No crew inforcing Covid rules
Breaking the law on all fronts, money over lives as usual!
SHAME ON YOU RED FUNNEL!
Just driven down York Avenue on the long awaited new surface and yet still they manage to get highs and lows in the surface , this will put stress on the just before hump and lows and the surface be back to square 1 again in no time . Where it was started / finished all the way up to old road is falling to bits another million £ need but hey there seems to be plenty to Chuck about !
Its certainly not the greatest bit of tarmac Ive seen and certainly is absolute minimum depth permissible. Pretty amateurish attempt at glittering a turd at the cost of destroying many of the other road surfaces in East Cowes due to the diversions. I give it much less than a year before remedial work is needed to patch it back up. If we had done work like this when we were laying roads we would not have been paid and would have been kicked off the job, Still it looks pretty for about a month or so.
every road they have smeared a centimeter of tracle on has only lasted 2 years if that look everywhere they have been all roads toatlly f….ked
Well the good news was we were checked in and allowed to leave and return at 11.15pm so I wasn’t stuck in the terminal BUT we were told the sailing would be at 11.55 and it’s now 12.05am and no sign of any ferry. When it finally arrives it will need to unload so just WHAT time will we depart. Jeez, they even fook up being late!! (Raises eyes, yawn, YAWN – this has turned into a very LONG day). Grrr!!
It’s definitely time for a fixed link, & if anyone disagrees then that’s probably because you never leave the island or are just selfish
I need to go to Southampton next week for an important thing. Red funnel passenger service runs once every 80 minutes. (7:35 then 8:55) Wightlink is a bit better, one an hour. Makes timing with train very hard. Will be sat at station for 30 mins. But still quicker than going via Cowes. Going on foot as using car is impossible!
Very true, the island is held to ransom every single day and is dying as a result of the dearest stretch of water and incompetent crossing companies, if this was a council run facility, everybody and their dog would complain about how shoddy it is, floating bridge as an example.
Amen
