Island Roads will be undertaking safety work on Medina Way in Newport over 4 nights this week. Sections of safety barriers will be replaced in work scheduled to take place on the dual carriageway between 19:30 and 06:00 tonight and again on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights (26th to 29th February). Both the southbound and northbound lanes will be closed during the work with signed diversions in place. The southbound diversion will be via the industrial estates and the northbound diversion via the Lidl Roundabout and Hunnyhill. The work is being undertaken overnight to minimise disruption and is required after damage to the safety barrier system was caused by road traffic incidents. Dave Wallis, Island Roads operations and maintenance manager, has said:
“Working at night will reduce the impact of this work on road users, and I am sure people will understand how important it is to ensure the restraining barriers on the dual carriageway are returned to their proper condition. “We’d like to thank road users in advance for their understanding and co-operation.”

Why are they closing the whole road rather than just one lane in each direction like everywhere else in the country does. And why for the whole night each time?
The appropriate safety gap could still be maintained with just one lane closed and possibly a temporary speed limit reduction.
Perhaps they are doing the central barrier.
Because they are irl ragebaiting without consequence.
4 nights what they doing the whole lot from bottom to the top how is that a 50 hour job
Why your at it fix the drain southbound at the traffic lights to coppins bridge where it floods on the corner.
Let the toads see the roads. Island toads the worst firm on the island. Roads no better now than when they took over. Get Dave Wallis to look at Copse Road Freshwater Denmark Road Cowes or Preston Road Ryde. All crumbled away riddled with potholes what are the Toads doing about this?
There is not a decent Maintenance Company on the island
all run by buffoons.
Waste of tax payers money.
Let’s hope they do a better job than they did with the 2 speed humps down the mall in Newport as you go towards the town useless
Who signed the work off? Surely the council does checks on the quality of there subbies?
Heard the gas main repairs needed while the road works were going on cost £150k. Council tax payers money.
Island Roads own the PFI contract, signed for many years ago. Very very little anyone can do except wait for it to time out and then not renew. This is what we get for voting Tory. If they never fixed another road we’d STILL be making the PFI repayments.
So some numpty in a car they can’t control hit some barriers the keyboard warriors know better? Safety of the workers is paramount because the average driver on this rock can’t drive, can’t obey speed limits, can’t even read Road closed (line up the people saying they know better)
It’s probably because numptys don’t abide the rules they have be to shut the road whole to protect the workforce. It’s an inconvenience but you have brought this on yourself, drive the 30 seconds diversion and just get on with your life’s.
Is this where the 6.2 million £ the MoJ gave them for the prison estate roads is being spent?
