The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed yet ANOTHER delay in bringing the Cowes Floating Bridge back into service.
It was initially planned that the Floating Bridge would be suspended for 10 days from Tuesday 14th July. However, the vessel failed testing and therefore did not return to service on 24th July as planned.
The Isle of Wight Council subsequently said that the cross-Medina service would resume on Tuesday 28th July but last Monday afternoon confirmed a second change of plan.
Council officials then said the Floating Bridge would return to operation tomorrow (4th August) but another delay has just been confirmed – but no date has been given as to when a normal service will resume.
It’s said that further investigations are to take place.
The Floating Bridge has now been out of action for 3 weeks but a foot passenger launch is operating 05:00-23:00 daily (06:30-23:00 Sundays).

The only service this pile of **** needs is a burial!
If it wasn’t the IoW Council you would not believe it, but this reporting is now the norm.
Wow, when are the council going to realise they are flogging a dead horse? it has always been my opinion you can`t polish a turd.
Time to terminate employment of clowns responsible. They’ve already worked out how much more poll tax we’ll pay next year to cover there negligent decision’s.
Read what it says above ,”but no date has been given as to when a normal service will resume”
It is the normal service, so no problem.
The only problem that I can see is that those responsible are still in their jobs and that I, as well as you, are still contributing to their salaries. Why?
I admit I am no engineer but my logic told me from the start that the hull either end of the new one should been the the
same measurement on the hull either end of the old one. Someone on the design team I assume from the IOW Council should have overseen this. Thus landing in all weathers and tides should have had no trouble. Someone or some people have made a bit of a faux pas . We the council tax payer will pay for this.
For as long as we keep paying council tax. We get absolutely nothing in return. Keeps them in their jags, BMW’s, Chelsea tractors and Mercs.
While the rest of us get sweet fa. Yet they can pay them selves in excesses of 100,000 pounds a year. So they are not worried about us small people that have to pay for all of this.
A space capsule brought two people back from the International Space Station yesterday but our Council can’t even get people across the River Medina – what a disgrace. Surely there must be a higher authority who can take the Council to task for their continued failure to manage the Floating Bridge properly.
It is history rewriting itself. In 1969 man first walked on the moon and Concorde first flew whilst down at Bembridge harbour passengers had to de-bus and walk across the bridge because of the state of the bridge. It was too unsafe to take the loaded bus. Put simply, 50+ years nothing has changed
Nothings changed that’s true, world war two is an example, Adolf Hitler built an army and the west did nothing until it was too late.
History is about to repeat it’s self because China are preparing for another war, watch this space….
Those two people who returned from space the first thing they wanted to know was is the Floating Bridge working yet
Build a swing bridge
Shut this useless so called service down, it was created by idiots and run by idiots, use it’s carcuse towards a foundation for a bridge.
I’m sick of tax payers money funding idiots,..
Right, enough is enough. I am formally launching a legal challenge into the floating bridge. The findings will be made public. I believe that the council are raising our council taxes, cutting payments etc to the benefit of themselves and to cover their mistakes. This is not what a council stands for. We will bring down this council and we will form a new one, a better and a more open council. Let’s do this together.
I wholeheartedly support you in this endeavour. Enough is enough.
You have my support! Beyond fed up with this inefficient, irregular and incompetent ‘service’.
We can do this ,we pay council to look after us,we get nothing apart from cuts every year more toilets closing .litter bins over flowing , ok u got me on 1 now lol
Ever since its arrival, its been one problem after another, i’m just glad i do not live in Cowes and work East Cowes or visa versa.
I wonder if drivers could claim the addition time and expense incurred by having to travel to via Newport?
Scrap the pile of sh t
MARCUS your so so right
Not good news with other traffic chaos in Cowes at the moment
There’s a very good TV programme called ‘The Repair Shop’. Two possibilities- take the floating bridge in to be fixed or the responsible Councillors to have a brain transplant.
Yo need to have a brain in the first place to have transplant
As I mentioned b4 sell the excuse of a floating bridge and replace it with a bridge
I expect the council cant afford to fix it until our council tax goes up silly money again next year
Fortunate that Cowes week cancelled. At least keeps Jenny boats in business. It’s just a floating lump steel pulled on chains – same for 75plus years, nothing sofisticated ,yet at £6 million and rising you could have a all singing all dancing super yaught to travel across Atlantic ,but we can’t get across a small river.
Apparently the same group of officials are still trying to work out how to drain every other lane at the Medina pool to retain social distancing!!!!
closer to 10million when you add all costs up
This is the very first time I’ve agreed with every single comment on here and given a “like” to all of them. – says something, doesn’t it?
Just bring back the original one ….this one is never in service
Why do we not name the officials who voted for this white elephant, then when the next elections take place make sure they are never voted in again. If these council members worked for private industry they would have been sacked years ago.
