Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision between Brading and Sandown, which has forced the closure of the main road in both directions tonight (Friday).
Island Echo understands that a vehicle has come to rest side-on across the carriageway on Morton Common, on the Brading side of the Avenue Road railway bridge.
Police, fire and ambulance crews are all on scene.
The incident occurred around 21:30.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area, diverting via Yaverland.
UPDATE – Morton Common has now reopened in both directions following recovery of the vehicle involved, thought to be a VW Scirocco.
1 person has sustained minor injuries in the single vehicle incident.

Another Island Autobahn, until IW Council grow a
Pair of balls and implement strict speeding rules
with heavy fines etc, accidents will keep happening.
I have never seen a place where speeding is so
Rife.
I completely agree with you. Too many selfish drivers who are also not aware of their surroundings. Driving through Newport town centre, for example, I appreciate that a pedestrian, distracted by money worries or their phones etc, could suddenly step out in front of my car. A bicycle could potentially be coming the wrong way down a one-way street. I drive according to these potential hazards. Most drivers here don’t have the intelligence to see this, and think only about themselves getting from A to B. I can see in my rear mirror the driver behind looking down – it is so obvious they are looking at their phones. Jumping red traffic lights, parking on double lines, driving too close, speeding, dangerous overtaking, noisy exhausts, drugs, the list is endless. Unfortunately, it is all due to the selfish society in which we now live. A society where antisocial behaviour is not corrected. I’m now at the point where I’m no longer afraid of WWIII. Some sort of re-set IS needed.
I couldn’t agree more.
Because the law and order is slack on the island
people take the p*ss.
It is about time IW Council employed a towing
service, any vehicle parked on Pavements or
Double Yellow Lines need towing away and crushing.
Re WW3, majority of our own people
are our enemy, they lack respect.
I feel sorry for our children, their future in
todays society looks grim.
Why can’t we mark comments up or down anymore, please, Island Echo??
