Freshwater Independent Lifeboat has gone to the assistance of a broken down vessel off the coast of the Isle of Wight this evening (Saturday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the offshore lifeboat at around 19:00 after reports were received that a small vessel was in difficulty off the coast near Brighstone.
The volunteer lifeboat crew were on scene by 19:30 and quickly established a tow.
Now, more than 3 hours after launching, the lifeboat has completed its slow tow of the casualty vessel around The Needles and up the Solent to Lymington.
Shore crew at Freshwater Bay are awaiting the return of the lifeboat as darkness falls.
Earlier on today the charity’s inshore lifeboat was tasked to assist a vessel with engine trouble. The engine was successfully restarted by the lifeboat crew and the vessel was escorted towards Mudeford, Dorset.
