The on-call crew at Freshwater Fire Station will soon be welcoming recruit George Crockford to their team. Having completed his initial training course this week, George is soon set to meet with his new crew members at the Audley Court-based station. George and his fellow trainees were assessed by the Learning and Development trainers at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’ Eastleigh headquarters and were tested on their pump and ladder skills, and will continue their firefighter development with their stations ahead of future courses with the L&D team to further enhance their skills. On-call firefighters train in several modules during their development, attend a weekly drill night and make themselves available for agreed hours around jobs, family responsibilities and other commitments.
