A nervous young dog who spent 469 days in kennels has finally found comfort and calm – all thanks to the care of a foster family on the Isle of Wight.
3-year-old Storm came into the care of the RSPCA Isle of Wight branch wary of people and protective over her toys. But through the patience and dedication of the animal welfare team and her new foster carers, Storm has begun to thrive.
Now, she enjoys peaceful afternoons rolling in the grass, quiet sofa naps, and gentle fuss from people she trusts.
Storm’s transformation is described as remarkable, with the once-guarded dog now able to walk calmly past other dogs and share space with familiar humans around her toys.
Hannah Allen-Western, Animal Manager at the RSPCA Isle of Wight, has said:
“Storm’s journey shows the incredible impact of fostering.
“Fostering has given Storm something that kennels, however caring, cannot fully provide – the stability, comfort, and love of a home environment.
“This vital step not only helps animals like Storm build confidence and practice positive behaviours, but it also gives them the best possible chance of finding their forever home.”

The RSPCA is now appealing for more Islanders to consider becoming foster carers. Full training and support are provided, and fostering gives animals in need the chance to recover, grow in confidence, and prepare for adoption.
