First time author Derrick Babington will be in conversation with his editor, Pat Murgatroyd, discussing and reading passages from his heart-warming memoir ‘Postie to Pirate’ at Medina Bookshop next week. ‘Postie to Pirate’ is a book that came about whilst the author was recovering from a life-threatening illness 12 years ago. Derrick Babington, a postie at Ventnor in the 1970s, went on to be a professional storyteller for Island schools and a volunteer Watch Leader on Tall Ships. He was also one of HMS Victory’s cutter crew. He takes readers on a fascinating journey in this witty memoir. Whilst writing the book Derrick found himself in hospital again 2 years ago and said, with a smile:
“I was not sure what the outcome would be so I decided to write the last chapter before I had completed the book, just in case”.

Musical interludes of songs of the sea will be performed by local musician and folk singer John Hacker.
