1 of just 2 roads in and out of Bembridge is to close for 3 weeks from Monday (12th January) to allow previously postponed Southern Water works to take place.
Embankment Road, which links St Helens and Bembridge, will be shut from 09:00 on Monday and is scheduled to remain closed until 18:00 on Friday (30th January). The dates are subject to change depending on the progress of the work.
The closure follows the postponement of planned works in December 2025, which were not very well received by local residents at the time.
The works will involve digging into the carriageway to relay pipework as part of flood mitigation repairs, with overpumping required throughout and some removal of street furniture.
During the closure, there will be changes to Southern Vectis routes 8, 59 and 71. Services towards Ryde will operate via Sherbourne Avenue, High Street, Foreland Road and Steyne Road to reach Marshcombe Shute, then continue via Brading and Carpenters Road to reach St Helens.
No access through Embankment Road will be permitted during the closure period.
Pointless as global warming will mean causeway is demolished an it was a marsh when in fact it is an estuary but apparently that untruith cannot be reversed in EU land and EA who accept it was an error wont go against EU. So much for leaving.
