A flood alert has been issued for the Eastern Yar by the Environment Agency.
The water level in the Eastern Yar – between Bembridge and Whitwell – is high and rising following rain throughout the day.
Road and footpath flooding is expected with the river close to the top of the bank at Langbridge and Alverstone bridge, although property flooding is not expected.
At Alverstone, levels will continue to rise until 23:00. Meanwhile, at Sandown, levels are also high but won’t peak until early Wednesday.
The Environment Agency lowered the sluice at Bembridge earlier today to reduce levels at Brading Marshes during neap tides for the next 3 days. Water will pond on Brading Marshes but this will not affect property.
