The Floating Bridge service between East Cowes and Cowes has been suspended this evening (Tuesday).

It’s reported to Island Echo that cars have had to reverse off of the troubled chain ferry as it failed to depart East Cowes.

An ambulance on a blue light run has had to divert via Newport to attend an emergency call.

The service is now suspended but there has been no official word from the Council as of yet.

It’s been a few weeks since Floating Bridge No.6 last broke down, but this latest incident doesn’t add anything to the vessel’s rather poor track record.

It’s unclear at this stage what has led to this evening’s breakdown.

UPDATE @ 17:40 – The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that engineers have been called to investigate a fault with the east prow.

A passenger launch is being arranged and should be in operation from 17:45.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 06:52 – The Floating Bridge remains out of action this morning with no indication as to when a normal service will resume.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 11:58 – The Cowes Floating Bridge is now back in action, the Isle of Wight Council has confirmed.
