Wight Eagles Ladies comprehensively beat Pace Women 5-0 at the weekend, securing their 1st win of the 2024/25 season.
From the off, the Eagles pushed hard to break the deadlock, and the breakthrough came when Ellena Boakes was fouled just outside the box, the former manager stepping up and unleashing a free kick into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Shortly after, and with the momentum in their sails, the game opened up, and early substitute Georgia Dye made it 2-0 to the home side.
On the half-hour mark, Kira Smith broke free down the right hand side before swinging in an inch perfect cross for Abi Joyce to strike home with a first-time finish (3-0).
Right on the stroke of half time, Jess Green netted to extend her great run of form, leaving the Eagles 4-0 to the good at half-time.
The domination continued in the 2nd half as Eagles not only managed possession but the game itself, limiting Pace to very few chances.
As the game neared its end, Kira Smith was played through 1-on-1 with the Pace keeper before coolly smashing a shot into the top corner to complete the rout (5-0).
Speaking on the result, team manager Dan Verstraeten, said:
“The ladies worked extremely hard at training mid week to try and adapt to the style we want to play this season and passages of play along with the controlled possession on show today was incredible.”
“The goals were fantastic and showed our dominance of the game. It’s great to get a clean sheet and 3 points on the board.”
