Firefighters are tackling a large shed fire in a Newport garden this afternoon (Wednesday).
A single pumping appliance from Newport was first called to the scene at around 14:30 following reports of a garden blaze on Staplers Road.
Firefighters have been joined on-scene by Police. Hose reel jets are being used to tackle the blaze which has completely engulfed a large outbuilding/shed.
Island Echo understands that residents of a nearby block of flats have been evacuated as a precaution.
As a result of ongoing efforts to tackle the blaze, Staplers Road is currently closed to traffic heading into Newport.
