Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire on the outskirts of Chale this evening (Thursday).
1 pump from Shanklin and 1 water carrier from Ventnor are on scene at a farm off Appleford Road.
Shanklin’s retained appliance turned out at around 15:50, with the assistance of Ventnor’s water carrier requested sometime around 17:10.
It is thought that the incident has been contained but smoke can still be seen in the area.
Further details have been requested from fire control.
UPDATE @ 17:50 – According to fire control, a number of straw bales are alight. The fire service were alerted at 15:46.
A second appliance from Newport is also on scene, assisting colleagues from Shanklin and Ventnor.
The incident continues with no stop message received from the crews on the ground.
UPDATE @ 18:20 – The fire is now out and Ventnor’s water carrier is returning to station.
The cause is unknown at this time.
