PICTURE GALLERY: Firefighters from across the Island gathered at Ryde Fire Station last night (Thursday) for a ceremony to mark 20 years of exemplary service.
The Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Major General Martin White, presented the firefighters with medals for ‘Long Service and Good Conduct’ on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.
A total of seven firefighters were present at the ceremony to receive their award, with another six awarded but unable to attend the ceremony due to prior commitments.
At the ceremony, which takes place on the Island every two to three years, the Lord Lieutenant was greeted by the outgoing Chief Fire Officer Steve Apter, before entering Ryde Fire Station followed by the colour party made up of three fire officers wearing ceremonial uniform carrying the fire brigade standard.
Firefighters serving communities in Cowes, East Cowes, Ryde, Shanklin, and Newport were called up individually to receive their medals, as photographed below.
