Donations being collected at one of the Isle of Wight’s best Christmas lights displays will help fund WightSAR’s search and rescue efforts in 2024. The volunteer team from Isle of Wight Search and Rescue paid a visit to the Bannock Road display in Whitwell on Wednesday night to see for themselves the incredible effort that goes into making the display shine bright. The team enjoyed a tour around and even WightSAR Ted ventured out in the cold for the experience! Since 2017, the Bannock Road display has grown to become a top festive attraction on the Island. Last year it clinched 3rd place in Island Echo’s Light up the Wight competition and is vying for your votes again in 2023. This year, all donations generously given by the visiting public will go straight to WightSAR, who are there at a moment’s notice to assist Police with searches for missing people and other time-critical incidents. They are not Government-funded and rely heavily on fundraising. Bannock Road’s Christmas lights are on each night between 16:00-23:00 (PO38 2RD). Donations can be made in person via the collection boxes, or online at www.bannocklights.co.uk.
