A number of youths branded ‘feral yobs’ by a local businessman and former town mayor have been blamed for causing significant damage to public toilets in Shanklin.
The toilet block at Hope Road on the Esplanade was trashed yesterday evening (Friday), with all the toilet roll holders and hand canisters ripped off the wall and a general mess left by the unidentified group.
Jon Gibley, the former Mayor of Shanklin, says something needs to be done to put a stop to unacceptable behaviour and vandalism such as this.
Jon has said:
“The problem is this costs the residents of Shanklin money to sort out.
“A member of the public apparently called the Police but was told to fill in a form online. There’s not much they can do now. The lady told the Police that if they get someone down they are still hanging about, but nothing was done.
“We are literally in a position that private security needs to be employed to protect our public property from these feral yobs “.
“It makes my blood boil nothing gets done”.

It comes just days after Island Echo reported about youths causing trouble with their unruly behaviour in Newport.
Disgusting idiots need finding and parents fined.

People need to be stopped being paid to have children. Then and only then will truly wanted children be born.
Now with generous tax credits and child allowance with subsidised rent and council tax children are a way for many to have a lazy lifestyle yet still live well and the children are not loved and grow up vile.
Bring back the birch, they wouldn’t do it again. I know its extreme but they know they’re untouchable because of the do gooders.
They must have been hanging around as a member of our family turfed a group out from here about tea time. Perhaps the only answer this trash will understand is someone a bit bigger than them that can’t be intimidated.

Once again the police show they have no interest in upholding the law, if you do bother to report a crime it is almost certain you will get no response.

When did that happen, Sam? Youth clubs are established at and administered by schools and churches.
Many youth clubs were funded by their local council who have had to stop funding them due to receiving less money from the government. In some areas police commissioners now fund youth clubs as they can help reduce crime.

The only way to protect public loos is to have a person working in there, cleaning and making sure nothing like this happens. Criteria is, you gotta be ‘big’ and know how to deal with out of control little kids hell-bent on causing trouble and damage!

With many calling for Private Security and, in my area for vigillantes to tackle the drug running going on, surely it is time the Police were held accountable for their reluctance to act.
I phoned the police to inform them of intruders who I came upon were I work,they asked was anything taken bearing in mine they were still here? And said they would take note of it as nothing was stolen as they were leaving the premises

The parents should be made to pay for the damage
They teenagers should be banned on public transport after a certain time If convicted a night term curfew There should be the need for a parent to supervise their sons or daughters If not the parent should be fined
All damage should be paid for via a attachment order on any income The parents to pay for the initial damages as well
Perhaps a pictures of the convicted displayed around the island

The lady who rang the police should have said that the youths questioned her gender identity and used hurty words against her. Then there would have been an instant blue-light multi-agency woke response.
Ordinary crime is well down on the list of police these days. Especially in lawless Shanklin.

As a local Council Tax and Town Council Precept Payer, may I suggest that Shanklin Town Council sent the bill for the cost of repairs to our illustrious Police and Crime Commissioner. SHE said the Island was getting more Police, and to be told ‘fill in an on-line form’ is a total dereliction of their responsibilities. So, they had an ‘incident’ in Newport last night. So what? OBE incident in the Island does not need ALL Island Police to attend, or were the poor little darlings afraid these Feral Kids would shout nasty words at them and be upset?
Meanwhile that useless police crime commissioner will be telling everyone what a great job she is doing in getting antisocial behaviour sorted and that we should all pay a higher precept on our council tax. Sack her and spend the money on security, the kind of security that carry batons and knuckle dusters.
Every year our police precept goes up and we get nothing in return, we need our councillors to oppose any precept next year but that would require a spine and we all know between them they don’t have one.
This is the sort of incident which local PSCOs and Special Constables could respond to.

I thought the police were in place to uphold the law to protect people and property – in this instance and many others they have failed , so they should be held responsible for cost of repairs. Maybe next year instead of tens of thousands of people paying increase in police cost they invest in private security and CCTV !.
Maybe some reparations reqd,take their iPhones, trainers, scooters, hoodies , PlayStation etc and Auction off. sandown and shanklin could be lovely places – unfortuately they are rife with benefits idiots that combined with developers who let their assets deteriorate waiting for planning leave these places in a sad state – until the coucil start taking action nothing will change
