The Rotary Club of Shanklin says that things are back on track for its highly-anticipated annual 2-week Rotary sale, which returns on Tuesday 9th January from 10:00. For many decades the Rotary Club of Shanklin has been organising its annual pop-up sale each January. It has become a local institution on the Isle of Wight. A band of stalwart Rotarians are enthusiastically supported by a regular team of around 40 local volunteers to collect, display, sell and deliver a plethora of Island donations, which resulted in takings of over £40,000 in pre-pandemic times. With a much smaller venue, storm damage and less control, money raised from the 2-week sale crashed to £17,000 in the first post-COVID year, but the Rotary Club says re-grouping, relearning and reforming has tightened up plans to put the annual sale back on track. For 2024, the sale will take place at YMCA Winchester House on Sandown Road, Shanklin on dates between 9th-20th January, between 10:00-16:00 (closed 14th & 15th). The team behind the Rotary sale say that sorting and displaying goods immediately before and during the sale is necessarily an intensive and speedy task – furniture, toys, electricals, clothes, linen, pictures, books, CDs, bric-a-brac, tools, gardening and sports equipment are all available. Donations received during December and January range from the mundane to the downright bizarre. There’s a great enthusiasm from locals for what will turn up each year and there is not much the Rotary Club don’t accept, but damaged and unusable items cost expensive skip space. Doors open at 10:00 on Tuesday 9th January. Free parking, refreshments available. Payment by card accepted (minimum of £5 spend).
