UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a car on Middle Road near Freshwater this afternoon (Saturday).
The road has been closed in both directions between Chessell Pottery and Wilmingham Lane whilst the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police attend to those involved.
The severity of any injuries sustained remains unclear at this time.
It is thought the crash, which has taken place at the junction with Broad Lane, occurred at around 14:15.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area for the time being, with Police asking that motorists respect road closures and cordons.
UPDATE @ 15:33 – 2 motorcyclists have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance, it has been confirmed. 1 of the 2 persons on the motorcycle has sustained a serious injury, whilst the other has escaped with a minor injury. Neither injury is said to be life threatening.
The crash has involved a total of 3 vehicles including a Triumph motorcycle and a Citroen C1.
1 fire appliance from Freshwater Fire Station has attended the scene to contain and clear fuel from the carriageway. Thankfully, no one has required extrication.
The road is expected to re-open shortly.
UPDATE @ 15:42 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the road has now re-opened to all traffic following recovery of the vehicles involved.
